1. Taj Mahal

Ancient mughal emperor Shahjahan constructed taj mahal to immortalize his queen Mumtaz mahal's memory. The grave of the queen is located at the centre surrounded by beautifu l octagonal fences. The entry fee here is about 15 - 16 dollars. Taj mahal describes the ancient indian architecture belonging to 1000 bc.

It took 22 years to build completely. This palace is additionally beautified with fountains and gardens. 



2. Ajanta Caves

Ajanta caves are ancient caves belonging to 2nd century.These caves are the best example of ancient cave architecture of India. Ajanta caves are located in aurangabad district in Maharashtra province of west india. The theme of the caves is buddhism. Various buddhist art and architecture is seen here. In 1983, UNESCO officially declared ajanta caves as UNESCO world heritage site. These caves are divided into two divisions : 1. caves based on wall paintings 2. caves based on sculpture. Caves of number 1,2,10,16,17 have excellent wall paintings.


3. Qutub Minar

Qutub minar is the tallest minaret of india located in delhi.This 73 metre tall minaret was constructed by qutubbudin aibak. Its construction was started in 1193 and finished by 1197. Red stone was used in the construction. Even after hundreds of years of construction, it has not been corroded yet. Going to the top, its circumference keeps on reducing.


4. Brihadeshwar Temple 













Brihdeshwar temple is an ancient pilgrimage place of hindu religion. This temple,located in tanjavur in Tamil Nadu, was built during 1003 to 1010 ad. This temple is dedicated to Hindu god Shiva. It is also called rajrajeshwar temple. The height of the temple is 500 feet. It was constructed in dravidian style of architecture.


5. Elephanta caves








Elephanta caves are located on an island in Arabian sea near Mumbai. There is a huge monument of Elephant so Portuguese named the caves as Elephanta caves. Locally, it is known as 'dharapuri'. Every year, many tourists visit these caves. In 1987, UNESCO declared this as world heritage site.


There are in total 36 world heritage sites in India.
