➤Have you ever heard about Himalayan mountains ? it is one of the most beautiful and popular mountain range in the world. 

 ➤ It is mainly located in India but also in Nepal,Bhutan,china, pakistan, Myanmar and Afghanistan. In India Himalayas extends from north to north east.

➤Sky touching Mountains

World's tallest mountain 'Mount everest' takes the place here with height of 8848 metres. Many more tall mountains are here like Kanchenjunga (3rd tallest), kailash mountain. Every year, numerous tourists visit this for stunning views.


➤Religious Places

Himalayas also hold religious importance for Hindu religion. Amarnath and Badrinath are sacred hindu places dedicated to lord Shiva. 

➤Passes

The range includes high altitude passes like Rohtang la, khardung la, south col, zoji la, nathula etc.

➤Ranges

Himalaya consists of 3 ranges, Greater himalayas, lesser himalayas, and foothills.

➤Climate

The climate here is extremely cold in the upper himalayas. Cold winds, river origination describes himalayas. Brimming rivers like ganga and yamuna are evergreen rivers. Many forests are included in lesser himalayas. Cities like shimla, musoorie, Dharmshala etc. are on the foothills of himalayas.







➤Wildlife

Varied wildlife is found in various himalayan regions. Snow leopards, Red panda, Yaks, Himalayan black bear, Blue sheep, one horned rhinoceros, asian elephants are found here.

➤Lakes

Some of the famous lakes of himalayas include : tilicho lake, mansarovar lake, tso moriri lake, rara lake,phewa lake,tsho rolpa lake.

➤Things to do

Trekking, mountain biking,mountaineering, kayaking, river rafting.


➤Unknown facts about himalayas

→Himalayas are getting taller every year.

→ Their length is about 2,400 km.

→They are about 25 million years old.
